Come along with Trains.com staff writer Lucas Iverson, as he visits The East Troy Electric Railroad in the summer of 2025. Located in East Troy, Wis., the railroad (completed in 1907) was originally part of The Milwaukee Electric Railroad and Light Company (TMER&L). When the company planned to abandon the line in 1939, East Troy city authorities petitioned to keep the seven-mile stretch for freight access. In 1972, volunteers began operating preserved streetcars and interurbans on the functional original infrastructure, offering public rides. The railroad now provides a 1.5-hour journey through Wisconsin’s countryside, featuring original sites, including their substation-turned-depot/musuem, and attractions all the way to Mukwonago!
Enjoy additional views of the operating railroad equipment in exclusive Trains.com video, plus an all-new East Troy Industrial Park HO scale project layout video series that draws inspiration from those same operations!
Love these types of visits.
