David moves from Episode 1 to the next steps of assembling wagons for the railroad town of his On30 Olympia & Sand Creek model railroad. This time, he starts in by making sure the parts to be assembled are well cleaned, all so the adhesive will properly adhere to the various white metal components. Then, he jumps straight into building out the box component of the wagon. Round up your own kits, and follow along through the entire process detailed in this Trains.com Video mini-series!
Be sure to explore the entire Olympia layout construction series, appearing exclusively on Trains.com Video!
Looks like a Fun Project!!!
Whenever I am gluing very fine wood parts where it is difficult to avoid glue ooze and/or blobs, I fasten the dry parts together with clamp(s), tape, friction fit, or whatever else works. I then glue them as I would with ballast using diluted matte medium with a wetting agent. If necessary, a repeat application can be made after the first application dries. The result is a “clean” secure joint which requires no additional prep work before finishing. Of course the rule still applies that any staining should be done before gluing.
