When riding aboard an Amtrak long-distance train, you’ll find that reserving a sleeping car accommodation is a great way to make your trek more relaxing and enjoyable! The most economical of sleeping car options is a Superliner Roomette.
By day, this space features two facing seats. By night, a Roomette converts into two berths, an upper and a lower, making it much easier to sleep on the train than riding in coach. The typical Roomette on a Superliner measures six and a half feet by three and a half feet. These are private accommodations, so each room has a sliding door with a window facing into the hallway. Plus, there are dark curtains that can be drawn across this and all other windows in the room at for privacy.
Amtrak is great, as long as you are not on a tight schedule. Roomettes are very comfortable. DP, come out on to AZ on the Texas Eagle/Sunset Limited, great trip. Full access to dining car and Viewliner are a plus.
When we rode on Amtrak in 2004, checked baggage was not an option at Newton, KS.
