WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — No injuries are reported and no hazardous materials are said to be involved after a Norfolk Southern train derailed Tuesday afternoon, closing a highway and an entrance to Robins Air Force Base.
About 20 railcars are involved, Houston County Fire Chief Chris Stoner told WMAZ-TV. At least some of those are tank cars, but the Houston County Emergency Management Agency says in a Facebook post that none of the cars are leaking.
WMGT-TV reports that State Route 247 has been reopened as of 7 p.m. EDT after initially being closed. The highway may face occasional closures during the cleanup process. At least one street, Watson Boulevard, faces an extended closure.
Warner Robins is about 5 miles south of Macon, Ga.
