A printed backdrop installation might be the focus of this episode, but first, David Popp shares how he protects the new toggle switch installation along the fascia of the HO scale Jones Island layout section. Meanwhile, Eric White works to trim and secure a printed paper backdrop installation to the wall behind the industrial tank farm. David then closes with a tour of his progress on the Port of Milwaukee terminal building.

Rehab My Railroad is a cherished series begun on Model Railroader Video Plus in the mid 2010s. Episodes feature Model Railroader staff surrounding an existing layout with their knowledge, wisdom, and skills to help the host modeler upgrade the model train layout’s features without tearing down or completely re-building the railroad.
The MR&T stands for Milwaukee, Racine & Troy and is the large-room layout built more than 20 years ago by Model Railroader staff and their friends. The HO scale layout hosts multiple revisions and updates each year to support feature articles in Model Railroader magazine or online at Trains.com.
how old is this….. very.
When can we expect new updates on the Jones Island project? I want to know what I’m paying money for.
With this project now complete, how about an operating session, starting with the incoming train made up in the MR&T yard. Travel to Jones Island, sort incoming cars, make pickups and deliveries, assemble outgoing train with consideration for dangerous loads, then back to MR&T. And maybe some comments on how often each industry would be switched if not daily. How long would an incoming train be? Switch list or car cards for the conductor? Two person crew? How long would a session take? Lots of possibilities.
Nice progress and update David and Eric. Looking forward to the next episode!
Great episode David and Eric! Nice to see so much progress being made. Hopefully… there won’t be quite so long a wait for the next episodes. As regards the photo backdrops…fabulous knife work by Eric to trim around all those details. I do have a question about the “perspective” of the tank farm and also the SS Alpena lake freighter. Possibly because of where the cameras are placed for the video vs the actual line of sight visitors/viewers might get, the ship and the oil storage tanks have an odd “vanishing point” that makes the earth take on some serious curvature at the horizon. Maybe its not so noticeable if you’re standing in the aisle next to the layout? Just wondering….
