In this episode of Cody’s Workshop, our host has returned with a clear focus on custom-building a small trackside structure for Model Railroader magazine’s MR&T HO scale layout – The Jones Island project. Cody tackles the effort by combining three of the same styrene kits into one unique yard building. Examine his planning, prep, and assembly steps here!

  1. Excellent video, Cody. Reading in MR is good, but a demonstration of the processes really adds to the experience and education. Very much appreciate the extra effort it takes to produce a quality instructional video.

  2. Hey gang, sorry about the glitches along the way. For those of you who were with us for the early days of MRVP, it took us a full 6 months to get that site working properly from its original launch date of April 1, 2013. Part of the excitement in a new site is that you can test it in house forever and still not find all the landmines. So, I simply ask for a bit of patience. Drop one of us an email when you find something that doesn’t work, and we’ll try to get it fixed asap.

And, please note that the original MRVP site is still operational, as we’re finishing up some work on the video end of things for Trains.com. For this week, at least, I’d suggest checking in there first for your video needs. MRVP subscribers will receive an email telling you when Trains.com is ready for video service. Thank you!

  3. Well, tried for episode 44 on this site, but selecting 44 gives you 45. Selecting 45 also give 45. So 44 is still missing. So far, Trains.com is showing up as a major snafu (that’s “Situation normal, all fouled up”.) Sad. At least MRVP is still OK.

  4. For a week there was nothing, then episode 45 appears, labeled 44
and then 45 also appears with the same video. Come on you folks can do better, you have done better.

  5. We have a video!
    Yard office looks nice, Cody.

Still get lots of “504 Gateway Timeout” messages…

  6. Still no video. Find new format very confusing and difficult to navigate. Difficult to find what;s new vs old. Signed up for unlimited version. Disappointed so far.

  7. Still can’t see the video. please let us know when the bugs will be worked out. The new system is a bit of a pain but as i work through it I can see the value it will be in the future. Like all new systems, the hard part is getting use to navigating through it. when i retired the company i worked for was installing a new system and everybody hated it, now 3 years later I still talk to many of them and they say it was the best thing once they got used to it. Here’s hoping we can say the same for this.

  8. I agree with above – I find this new format very difficult to navigate – especially when trying to find an old video series of something like a project railroad layout which was clearly spelled out on MR Video Plus. I have called Kalmbach and discussed with them this navigation problem in the “NEW” Trains.com website and was told that the powers that be (David Popp & Kent Johnson) thought the new format was going to be better — guess what ? WRONG. I do like the access to all the old magazines. Hopefully they are listening, make improvements and get the bugs out.

  9. I agree with everybody else. Where’s the meat? FYI, I’m not a big fan of the new look. Too hard to navigate.

    1. AGREED! and still no video! I guess we’re the only folks reading the comments. I’ve never gotten a reply or question answered from the comments section. :^(

    2. No video. Do not like this new look. How do I get back to just having MR and MRVP?
