Layout designer David Popp describes his strategy for using various turnouts on the Rice Harbor project layout. The turnouts are controlled by New Rail Models Blue Point controllers. You’ll also get a look at the benchwork for the folding staging track and see how pattern maker’s pins make is easy to align the layout sections. Meanwhile senior editor Jim Hediger has begun building the largest structure on the model railroad.

  1. David & MR crew, how do you obtain the C&L finescale alignment pins? Do you order them from the UK? They're out of stock. Maybe I can find a similar supplier in the US.

  3. The split warehouse is a great is a great concept. However, when in the expanded position, the now
exposed walls are blank. The front elevation details of each need to be continued so they do look like
separate buildings. It is a great job!!.

  4. The Rice Harbor will be the foundation for my new layout based on the modest-sized Port of Palm Beach in the late 50s. Not only does the port have it's own railroad connecting with the Florida East Coast and an interchange nearby with Seaboard, it was a major shipping point for railcar ferries to/from Cuba and the Caribbean. Thanks for the inspiration!
