David is ready to work on the largest industry on our State Line Route project railroad – the rock quarry! He demonstrates how to use rubber rock castings to make the quarry walls. Then he shows to add realistic color to them using craft paints and drybrushing techniques.
State Line Route in N scale: Modeling rock walls, Episode 16
Thanks Dave, Very Cool.
David: I recall you used an ISLE rubber rock mold on the Virginian series which I bought some and found them great, but have no been able to find any of late. So when I saw you using Cripplebush I went immediately to their website and I think that my layout needs are in good shape. Many thanks for this video and tip. I “hope” to be back in UK this spring and pay another visit to West Somerset Railway. Which by the by was another good video of yours. Regards,
Exactly which cripple bush product did you use?
Great work David and Renee. I’ve used the cripplebush flexible rock castings as well on my layout. if you are careful cutting the top edge you can simulate large rocks along the edge and use sculptamold to complete those rocks. That layout is coming along nicely. Thanks.
Great Video David! And timely, as I had that same Cripplebush Valley Limestone Bluff casting on my Xmas list. Fortunately I watched your video before starting any layout work myself, so now I have your tutorial to follow. Thanks!!
Maybe there was a reason for this, but might it not have been easier/less messy to have put the casting and Sculptamold in place BEFORE bringing the scenery and static grass up to the edge of the quarry? Thanks again, and Happy New Year!!
Thanks so much! I love following this whole project, fits in perfectly with my own needs building my first-ever N scale layout. Lots of ideas, tips and techniques. Looking forward to more in 2022: happy New Year to you all!
David,
I like the fact you are showing the use of craft paints. These are much more affordable than tubes of oil or acrylic artists colors.
David,
Good Morning. Another great job and a very educational video segment. I like the idea of the rubber rocks so I visited the company website after seeing your video. It did not take long to figure out that none of the links on the page work. I know that the videos are recorded in advance, so I have a question. Do you know if they are still in business?
