David and Rene prepare the State Line Route layout for scenery by smoothing out the terrain. Then they show how to model a farm field using scenery materials, such as grass mats, static grass, trees, and more!

  1. Have to agree with Jim above, fence lines attract birds and they deposit every type of tree, shrub and berry plant known to man aong the fenceline. I’ve used those grass mats on my layout as well and the only way to hide the seams between mats is to cut a wavy matching edge, not easy to do but tends to hide the seams better than a straight edge. Layout looks great David.

  2. A thought on trees and fence lines. It’s real common around the parts of the south where I grew up to see lots of small cedar trees growing randomly on the fence line. Birds would eat the berries off trees and then deposit them while sitting on the barb wire. Result was a lot of cedar trees of various sizes, depending on how old the fence was, marking out fields. You could even tell where old fences had long ago been by the neat row of cedars running through an open meadow.
