A shiny, natural metal finish looks just as nice on a streamlined passenger car as it does on a vintage airplane! Aaron Skinner walks you through the steps for applying a sleek finish using an airbrush. Plus, he also shares a clever paint masking technique that works well on rounded surfaces.

  1. I enjoy this series! A minor point – the text title above the video for this episode says “Episode 11, Realistic Metal Finishes” but is shown as “Episode 10, Realistic Metal Finishes” in the title in the video itself…

  2. Thank you. Great episode and just in time for an upcoming project. I will be painting a old Hawk models Viscount which is a model of an airliner I few as a passenger on United and Continental Airlines. Look forward to your future shows.

  3. VERY cool! I suupose one establishes the metal finish, then adds any colored areas? I don’t know if you have one planned, but a nice session about decals on metized finishes would be great for airplane guys AND model railroaders. Thanks Aaron.

  4. Aaron. Did you wash off the Novus before doing the next step in the paint process? Wouldn’t that Novus polish leave a film on the model thus preventing the paint from sticking? Does Alclad not need a grease or oil free surface in order to stick?

  5. Wow Aaron, that is a great looking model using those techniques. Wish I had your video about 45 years ago when I was building and painting airplane models. I will use these techniques now on model trains. Thanks.

  6. Glad you esplained that it was a second canopy, as I was beginning to get a bit worried. Now, can you do this in candy-apple red? Got a ’57 Chebby that would look neat, and I wouldn’t have to hand rub 7 coats of lacquer.
