A previous O scale turntable build went awry this fall, so David turned the troubleshooting effort into a Trains.com Holiday Party project…and solution! David takes no shortcuts in showing how to avoid shorts when using copper-cladded PC Board materials for crossties.

Q: Why not just use a Dremel with a cutoff wheel which could fit down between the pllanking and rail with less effort where you were filing the electrical gap? True, it could jump on you, but with care, would work, and for added assurance of electrical discontinuity, both sides of the planking could also be trimmed.
FWIW, THANK YOU for the build and the troubleshooting posts about the turntable (TT). I am wanting to build a small HO scale 65′ TT which would be about the same diameter as your TT. Hopefully, I can use your tips and techniques to accomplish this. and not forget to provide electrical isolation

Ain’t electricity fun? Also unforgiving, but fixable. I like these episodes because they remind us that mistakes can be rectified. Thanks David.
I watched you build the turntable and noticed that you didn’t cut a space in the circuit board ties. I thought that you would have done it later . I should have said something then. It takes a lot of courage to admit one’s mistakes and you showed how to correct the problem. You are truly a professional. The model is beautiful and will now perform well for many years. I enjoy your videos very much. Keep up the great work.
