Milwaukee, Racine & Troy HO scale steel cupola caboose - road name 1407
Don’t miss this exclusive HO scale Milwaukee, Racine & Troy steel cupola caboose.
I have those exact same sawhorses.
Kent, when are you going to add a logging branch on your outdoor railroad? Of course, this means you’ll have to watch out for lions, tigers, and bears, or worse yet, the birds and the bees, chipmonks, not to forget those pesky termites….oh my!
I liked the original series and thought that the plan for a logging layout could be adapted to the mining 2-footer the Gilpin Tram. This little 26 mile RR ran from Blackhawk CO to the mines above Central City. Several years ago Overland Models produce in On2 three of the Gilpin Tram Shays. Grandt line produced GT ore cars so that it would be feasible to build a workable layout. The addition of the another module would produce a workable layout. The problem is finding an engine which seems that people do not want to give up.
Interesting. Looking forward to more episodes. Who did you stick in the back of the van and elsewhere to take the videos?
The van should have a sign on the back doors reading “Olympia Railroad in Transit – Keep back 500 feet.” Looking forward to the expansion. Thanks
Looking forward to the Olympia expansion! I was lucky enough to see the Waterbury Branch on a NMRA home layout tour. One of the nicest layouts to see and operate. I liked the slot car track too. Mini Lime Rock?
Along with Jonathan’s comment: What happened to your N Scale layout? Getting older and can’t see as well? On30 more in focus? Anyway, who cares about scale? The lessons are the same and I, too, look forward to your new series. Who drew the short straw to back down the stairs to the basement? Yikes! That had my heart beating a bit faster….
HURRAH! Funny, I’m just starting to do the same thing with my small 4 x 4.5′ mine layout! Just today I’ve taken it apart and am ready to move it downstairs to it’s new home where I plan to add onto it. Serendipity.
So does the qualify as an 0-4-0 logging locomotive?
Breakfast of Champions, indeed Kent!
Brown sugar cinnamon pop tarts rule! KJ you are the man!
Looking forward to this new series. I am very interested in a model railroad expansion like this.
Although I’m HO Scale, I’m excited to see more on this RR.
WHOA—WHAT HAPPENED…to the Waterbury Branch?
I was reviewing the Lessons learned video from the original Olympia series, and I remembered the discussion of the KMP Saw Mill kit that you didn’t get to use. I would love to see you incorporate that kit into the expansion project. I would be especially interested in a segment on how to paint and weather the white metal castings that come with the kit. I have been hoping you would do a segment or series on working with metal castings, and this would be a perfect opportunity. Whatever you decide to include, I know it will be great!
More On30? Now you’re talking! Looking forward to the “push out the end”.
I learned a few things from this video and it reinforced a few feelings I already had! First new – I see that you guys secretly eat ice cream after your sessions! More, I see that Wisconsin is a beautiful state (this from a person who lives near Canandaigua (Seneca for “The Chosen Spot” in the BEAUTIFUL Finger Lakes area of New York State!) as you drive around! What I already knew…the crew – David, Kent, Cody and everyone else has done a fabulous job of moving Model Railroader into the 21st Century. I’ve been a Model Railroader fan from back in the 60’s, but this new format is great!!! Keep up the good work, guys!
I remember when you started building the Olympia layout, you said that it was going to be portable. You have shown that it is in fact portable.
I always wondered how portable it would be as it appeared to be so heavily built. So just heavy is it?
This will be fun and interesting. I pulled several techniques off the original videos to help with my own layout.
Kent – a man after my own heart . . . a brown sugar/cinnamon pop tart breakfast, my go to pleasure food group!!!! And BTW, I look forward to the project.
Interesting. I can see that the Olympia would be more fun with an expansion.
Looking forward to seeing the progress of this railroad on your blogs. BTW, the music choice for this video was awesome.
Excellent! I’ve been waiting for the Olympia expansion series!!! I love On30…my Dead Rail modular layout is so much fun…the best part is no wires…oh, and I haven’t cleaned track in three years!!! I can’t wait to see this new series. Thanks David for shining the light on On30!!!
Hi David. Looking forward to a great series here. I would imagine that with the amount of MRVP build projects, that you will eventually run out of space storing them at Kalmbach Publishing. Have you considered auctioning off to charity any of the older ones?
I love seeing the move from the layout’s point of view. Do you suppose layouts have feelings? Will it miss the other layouts? How will it feel when David approaches with a cordless drill…..
