After a quick overview of the foam forming techniques KJ and Drew used thus far, the two turn their attention to shaping the rugged, eroding rock faces for our Canadian Canyons N scale layout project. They share helpful materials, techniques, and tools you can use on your own mountain making efforts!

  1. A tremendous project folks, this layout continues to inspire ideas for what will be my “Retirement” layout. Don’t you just love vacuming up bits of foam? 🙂

  2. Great video tutorial on using different types of foam nod cutting tools to recreate various rock faces and slopes on the Canyons layout. Using the vacuum attached to the Surform tool is a great idea. Thanks

  3. Looking at the current shape of the rock work at the Project Webcam, we can see how well this all turned out and it is very nicely done!

  4. Really creative use of the different types of foam. Looks like fun but a lot of work too! Seems great for the steep terrain.

  5. Drew/Kent: Good variety of material and techniques you are teaching us. Interesting to see how all of this has come together while watching the present scenery work progressing on the MR webcam. Thanks for the outtake as I know there had to be some jocularity between the two of you during filming. Onward!

  6. You guys came up with a neat use of the profile boards from Woodland Scenics. Kent, maybe you better upgrade the shop-vac for better suction.
