CSX logoGREENCASTLE, Ind. — Cleanup continues more than 20 cars of a CSX train derailed Tuesday night (July 8, 2025) in Greencastle, Ind.

The derailment was reported to first responders about 8 p.m.  Putnam County Emergency Management Director Sarah Owen told the Putnam County Post that there were no injuries, no hazardous materials involved, and the derailed cars remained up right. An aerial image on the WIXN-TV website indicates the cars involved were auto racks; a Facebook post from the Greencastle Fire Department indicates railroad personnel will be in the area “for an extended period” for cleanup and repairs.

Greencastle is about 40 miles west of Indianapolis on CSX’s St. Louis Line.
