Greg McDonnell’s Field Guide to Modern Diesel Locomotives, from the publishers of TRAINS Magazine, picks up where Louis Marre’s Diesel Locomotives: The First 50 Years (Kalmbach 1995) leaves off.
McDonnell includes histories and spotting features of Electro-Motive Division diesels starting with the 1972 introduction of EMD’s Dash 2 series; coverage of General Electric diesels starts with the 1977 debut of the Dash 7 locomotive series. The Guide also includes models built by Wabtec/MotivePower Industries of Boise, Idaho.
Locomotive data includes production dates, total built, length, diesel engine type, horsepower, alternator and traction motor types, and weight.
This reference-sized book is illustrated by 247 bright and crisp color photographs, including several photos of locomotives being assembled on the GE and EMD factory floors.
